Geologist (Sr.), Geological Survey
of India has made outstanding contribution by discovery of gold
mineralization in hitherto unknown geological environment in
Bhukhia-Jagpura, Ganora-Ghatol and Hinglaz-Mato areas in Banswara
district and adjoining areas of Aravalli Fold Belt in Rajasthan. While
making a regional appraisal for carbonate hosted basemetal
mineralization, Shri Verma and his co-worker Shri A. K. Grover, detected
native gold specks in the ancient mine dumps identified by their acumen
for keen observation. Their vigorous sustained investigative efforts for
gold has opened up a new vista for locating newer gold prospects in
carbonate host rocks. Their discovery of gold in Rajasthan has attracted
attention and interest amongst the mining industries at national and
international level. In recognition of his
significance discovery of gold deposit in Rajasthan Shri R. G. Varma is
conferred the National Minerals Award for 1994 He shares the joint award
with his co-worker Shri A. K. Grover.
