At the time of Silver Jubilee
the department had produced only seven Ph.D. theses. We wrote in our SJS
that the department started as a center of geological research but,
soon, owing to great demand of trained geologist in the state and the
country , it changed to a teaching department. Research scholars were
not available as most of the students got alluring jobs, no sooner they
passed their examination. Many of them are holding key positions in
various organizations. We are really happy and proud of this situation.
Here we are remained of remark by an eminent educationist that
"under the prevailing condition in our country number of research
scholars in department is inversely proportional to its employment potentialities".
Subsequently, the situation reversed and interest in Ph.D. degree
increased that resulted in study increase in output of Ph.D. theses.
